SAP Note 604324 - Internet Explorer: The Open/Save popup can't be unprompted

Component : Graphical User Interface - SAP NetWeaver Portal

Solution : https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/604324 (SAP Service marketplace login required)

Summary :
When launching BW workbooks or R/3 transactions from the SAP Enterprise Portal iPanel, users may face Open/Save prompts in Internet Explorer. This issue arises due to the inability of non-admin users to modify Internet Explorer settings on PCs where they lack local administrative rights. The popups appear because the browser's attempt to amend registry values for file type settings at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT fails without administrative privileges, leaving settings unchanged regardless of user input on the prompt. Changing the registry or applying certain patches for users with admin rights can resolve this. The issue is reflective of handling file permissions and behavior settings within Windows rather than a defect in SAP software itself.
