SAP Note 590875 - SAPGUI and WP/EP: IE always prompt with OPEN/SAVE dialog

Component : Graphical User Interface - SAP NetWeaver Portal

Solution : https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/590875 (SAP Service marketplace login required)

Summary :
When SAP GUI for Windows is launched via Workplace or Enterprise Portal using Internet Explorer, an "OPEN/SAVE" dialog box may appear, requesting action for the SAPShortcut (.sap) file. Users should select "OPEN" and opt to prevent future prompts. If the dialog reappears, it typically indicates insufficient permissions for the user to modify the HKCU registry path. To prevent recurring prompts, grant users the rights to edit the HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts registry path. Specific entries depend on the Internet Explorer version and should be verified with Microsoft.
