SAP Program RGRRCONV_VAR - Report Writer: Conversion of Variants

Purpose
After an upgrade, the following problems occur with variants that werecreated for Report Writer report groups:

  • After an upgrade from 3.0/3.1 to 4.0 or from 4.0 to 4.5/4.6, variants
  • for Report Writer report groups are no longer available.
    Cause and Prerequisites
    • From 3.1 to 4.0 or 4.0 to 4.5, the names of the programs generated by
    • the Report Writer had to be changed. For this reason, the variants fromthe 3.0/3.1 or 4.0 system can no longer be assigned to the reportgroups after the upgrade.
      Solution
After the upgrade, run the RGRRCONV_VAR program in the affected client.
Enter the old release for the P_REL_F parameter (before the upgrade).
The report groups (for which the variants are to be converted) can berestricted by using the SO_LIB (libraries) or SO_RGJNR (report groups)selection options.
You can only convert variants for report groups that have beenre-generated after the upgrade. Therefore, before starting theconversion program, generate the affected report groups using the massgenerator (transaction GR55 -> Utilities -> Mass Generator).
The RGRRCONV_VAR program is a help report that can be used to convertmost of the variants. For technical reasons, there may be situations inwhich a full conversion is not possible. In this case, you need tomanually postprocess the affected variants.
Test the variable conversion carefully in a test system or test client.
      Note:
For technical reasons, it is not possible to convert single values forset variables (group variables).
      • Example 1:

      • Cost center group: H1234
        or value(s) : _______ to: ________
        Is converted correctly.
        • Example 2:

        • Cost center group: _______
          or value(s) : 2300 to: 3450
Cannot be converted for technical reasons. The missing values must bemanually postprocessed after conversion.
