Summary :
Starting with Release 4.0A, SAP allows Availability-to-Promise (ATP) checks to be conducted on a dedicated application server, enhancing performance by utilizing a shared buffer for global, cross-transactional memory access. This capability is provided without necessitating additional installations, as the ATP server is integrated within the existing R/3 system. Key setup instructions include configuring SAP parameters for the shared buffer size, object directory, and number of possible saved objects. For optimal performance, additional changes such as increasing the number of dialog work processes and defining the maximum RFC connections are also advised. The ATP server significantly reduces database load by storing frequently accessed ATP data, such as requirement and reservation details from tables RESB and VBBE, thereby accelerating data retrieval and processing.
