SAP Note 8812 - Increasing max. number of data files in Oracle

Component : DB Independent Database Interface - Oracle

Solution : https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/8812 (SAP Service marketplace login required)

Summary :
The ORACLE DB has reached the maximum number of accessible data files. For Oracle 7, manual adjustment of MAXDATAFILES is necessary. From Oracle 8, MAXDATAFILES is adjusted automatically if the number of data files exceeds it but is within db_files. The MAXDATAFILES value, set during 'CREATE DATABASE', cannot be increased using the db_files parameter. The solution involves shutting down the SAP system, using svrmgrl to edit the MAXDATAFILES value in the control file, adjusting the init.ora parameters, and recreating control files. These steps ensure the database can accommodate more data files up to the limits imposed by the operating system.

Key words :
