SAP Note 8707 - Explanation about init<SID>.sap parameter tape_size

Component : Database Administration with Oracle -

Solution : https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/8707 (SAP Service marketplace login required)

Summary :
During database backup, cpio encounters the physical tape end, outputting messages like "End of volume" and prompts for device/file name. This occurs because the init.sap parameter tape_size is set too large or hardware compression parameters are incorrectly defined. To fix this, tape_size should reflect uncompressed capacity. For units with hardware compression, avoid specifying logical tape sizes; account for error margins in compression rate estimation. Ensure correct driver configurations in tape_address and tape_address_rew. For hardware-compressed tape stations, deactivate compression and perform a backup to determine actual tape_size from the BR063I message. Adjust values based on changes or errors.
