SAP Note 821519 - Front-end printing with control technology

Component : Printer Control via Frontend PC - Print and Output Management

Solution : https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/821519 (SAP Service marketplace login required)

Summary :
This SAP Note addresses the issues related to front-end printing in terminal server environments using SAPLPD. The older implementation had complications in configuration and operation stability, particularly for non-Windows platforms using SAP GUI for Java. A new approach, effective from SAP 4.6C onwards, integrates print controls within SAP GUI, effectively eliminating SAPLPD as a separate process. This shift enables direct interaction with the OS's print system but retains specific constraints, such as the inability to execute "print immediately" from background jobs. Updates require specified kernel and GUI patches, and the legacy SAPLPD is deprecated but still included for backward compatibility.
