SAP Note 78991 - Update hangs; locks gather

Component : Update -

Solution : https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/78991 (SAP Service marketplace login required)

Summary :
In an SAP environment, users face an issue where updates fail to process efficiently, evidenced by accumulating update requests with an 'INIT' status in transaction SM13 and extensive locking seen in SM12. Additionally, in SM50, update processes carrying the report RSM13000 are shown as 'Running' but do not use CPU resources and cannot be terminated using standard methods. This scenario is primarily linked to a deactivated update mechanism due to a database error resulting in tablespace overflow. To resolve this, addressing the underlying database issues as per Note 3155 is crucial, followed by reactivating the update procedure in transaction SM13. This fix will ensure updates resume normal operation though processing backlogs may take additional time.

Key words :
transaction sm13 -> update records -> update -> activate, additional key words update, update requests accumulate, accumulated update requests, update work processes, kernel c-function, c-function blocks, report rsm13000 runs, transaction sm13, update processes
