Summary :
The SAP Note addresses the inadequacy of previous RFC logon load balancing methods and introduces an improved mechanism from Release 6.x onwards. To activate, the "Ext. RFC-enabled" option in SMLG must be selected, allowing dynamic balancing by pulling data from the message server. Systems on Release 4.6D and 4.6C can adopt this by importing a specified Support Package. This upgrade doesn't affect internal clients (i.e., other SAP systems) unless they too are updated to Release 6.x or higher. Furthermore, this note details the step-by-step RFC balancing process, including server selection based on quality, round-robin adjustments via a randomization process, and guidelines to mitigate issues caused by Network Address Translation settings. It also advises on supporting alternative IP addresses for servers to facilitate effective load balancing after the corresponding RFC library upgrade.
