SAP Note 47067 - Spool work process hangs during job request

Component : Spool System -

Solution : https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/47067 (SAP Service marketplace login required)

Summary :
SAP Note addresses a critical issue where spool work processes hang due to unresponsive host spool systems during print job queries. This situation halts all printing tasks within the affected spool work process and risks dispatcher queue overflow due to job accumulation. The root cause traces back to Unix's lpstat command, employed for job status checks on R/3 printers configured through SPAD with SAP Release 4.0A. Affected instances show no CPU activity for the spool process in SM50 and persisting lpstat processes in Unix lists. A short-term workaround involves disabling the host system query via SPAD settings, preventing lpstat invocation and ensuring the spool work process isn't blocked. However, this does not address the main problem causing host spool delays. Organizations are urged to report these issues alongside their specific printer configurations for a comprehensive resolution.
