In SAP systems, when configuring the customer or vendor master, the "Tax Jurisdiction Code" field set as mandatory can cause issues. If an external system like Taxware or Vertex is used to determine the code, and the field is left blank, the system fails to call the appropriate function module for code determination and instead displays an error message demanding all mandatory fields be completed. The error originates due to the required field check preceding the actual data checking process in SAP's UI. To resolve, it's advised not to set the tax jurisdiction code as a required field in Customizing, allowing the external system's automatic code population to suffice.
