Summary :
Due to evolving technical and organizational needs, such as managing multiple SAP components within a single database (MCOD), SAP has revised its tablespace layout. The new layout enables better alignment with modern storage technologies and simplifies database management by reducing the number of tablespaces. This change necessitates a compatible SAP kernel (minimum Basis Release 4.6C SR2 with SAP Kernel 4.6D) and locally maintained tablespaces, available from Oracle database Release 8i onwards. The layout change is mandatory from SAP Web AS Release 6.10 onwards, requiring system updates and potential adjustments to existing databases. For detailed implementation guidance, SAP provides support through SAP tools like SAPINST/R3SETUP/R3UP and specific Notes addressing schema conversion and BR*Tools setup.

Key words :
schema id = 'sr3'schema    = 'sapr3'tablespace names, administrative effort involved -> simpler tablespace layout, 'sapr3' sap database schema remains unchanged, sap tools sapinst/r3setup/r3up, demo/test/small customer systems, sap web application server release 6, oracle database release 8i fulfill, tuningoptions smaller reorganizational units, classic tablespace concept logical division, simplified oracle database administration
