Summary :
When executing variance calculations for production orders, cost collectors, or cost object IDs, an expected resource-usage variance for material changes often incorrectly registers as quantity, input, or remaining variances in SAP. This discrepancy occurs because, under certain combinations of cost element, origin group, and material number, planned and actual cost mismatches trigger inappropriate variance categorizations. Notably, origin groups only apply if specified within the material master, and material numbers depend on settings activated in SAP Release 3.0. To remedy this issue and accurately calculate the desired variance, differential configurations of origin groups and material-origin selections for materials are necessary. Enhanced data granularity might increase transaction runtime and volume, particularly during period closing, hence adjustments should be limited to critical materials for optimal performance.
