Summary :
As of Release 640, SAP's sapstartsrv can self-register in the SLD, a capability expanded in Release 710 to include Java SCS and webdispatcher instances. Registration is facilitated via the sapstartsrv_sld.xml file stored in $(DIR_HOME) and initiated at startup if a slddest.cfg file is present in $(DIR_GLOBAL). sapstartsrv employs the sldreg tool for generating this configuration file, as detailed in SAP Note 1018839. Restarting the sapstartsrv is necessary if slddest.cfg is added post-startup, accessible through SAP MMC/MC or via command line using sapcontrol. Enhanced registration logs are kept in dev_sldregs, with registrations occurring daily or upon failure retries in newer releases.
