Summary :
The Software Update Manager (SUM) is essential for managing updates and upgrades within SAP systems, specifically Java or dual-stack systems. SUM version 1.0 SP03 or higher checks the patch level of the SAP start service (sapstartsrv) at the outset of the update or upgrade process. This check is crucial to prevent issues identified in SAP Note 877795, related to system detection and start/stop functions. It is mandatory that sapstartsrv patch level complies with the minimum requirements detailed per release to ensure a smooth and error-free update process. Failure in meeting these prerequisites may hinder system functionality during and post-update. If the patch level is inadequate, manual update instructions are provided in SAP Note 165603092.
