SAP Note 1493852 - DB6: Use of alternate page cleaning

Component : DB2 Universal Database for Unix / NT -

Solution : https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1493852 (SAP Service marketplace login required)

Summary :
In SAP environments using DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows, DB2's page cleaning can be managed via two methods. Conventionally, page cleaning relies on SOFTMAX and CHNGPGS_THRES parameters affecting the cleaner’s activity which may cause periods of I/O saturation. DB2 version 8.1.4 introduced an alternate method allowing page cleaners to proactively select dirty pages for cleaning independently of these parameters, distributing writes more evenly over time. This method can benefit OLTP systems like ERP or CRM by smoothing the cleaning activities, though it may slightly reduce throughput in SAP BW systems. For alternate cleaning, enable it by setting DB2_USE_ALTERNATE_PAGE_CLEANING to 'on'.
