Summary :
In non-Unicode SAP systems, setting the profile parameter "abap/unicode_check" to "on" enforces stricter Unicode compliance checks, often causing programs like SAPMSEM1 to terminate due to related errors in MENUSYST not being Unicode-compliant. Post updates from certain Support Packages across various SAP Basis versions (6.20 to 7.01), systems become unloggable due to similar errors or internal task handler failures. One feasible correction involves deactivating "abap/unicode_check", adjusting MENUSYST in SE41 or SE38, and reactivating the parameter. For existing Unicode systems, adjustments in Menu Painter or using transports from parallel systems to restore MENUSYST are recommended prior to reactivating checks. Note 1460856 provides necessary corrections for implementing such changes during updates.
