SAP Note 1250466 - DB6: Perform database administration, keeping SAP AS running

Component : Database Administration with DB2 Universal Database - DB2 Universal Database for Unix / NT

Solution : https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1250466 (SAP Service marketplace login required)

Summary :
This SAP Note provides guidelines on conducting database administrative tasks without halting SAP application servers, specifically for UNIX or Linux operating systems using DB2 V8 or newer. Techniques include placing the database into quiesced mode, effectively prohibiting SAP connect users from establishing new connections during maintenance, thus avoiding full system restarts. Administrators should remove specific users from SYSMAINT, SYSADM, and SYSCTRL groups temporarily and ensure they do not possess DBADMAUTH and QUIESCECONNECTAUTH privileges before initiating maintenance. After tasks are completed, these settings are reversed to restore normal operation and connectivity. This method supports various scenarios, including offline backup/restores and parameter changes without affecting system availability.
