When a Bill of Material (BOM) explodes within a sales order in SAP, any substituted materials containing subitems may not see these subitems transferred into the order. The standard system does not cater to nested BOM explosions. Customizing of the item category (structure scope TVAP-STRUM) of the main item dictates the inclusion of all components in the structure at creation. For more details, refer to SAP Note 454937, which clarifies that subsequent BOM explosions post-material substitution at subitem levels are unsupported.
