With the introduction of kernel 7.20, SAP streamlined kernel maintenance operations via the APYSIDKRN command, displacing previous commands such as APYR3KRN and LODR3KRN. This command manages all maintenance tasks—you can completely reload the kernel, apply patches, and sync ILE and PASE components with a single command. APYSIDKRN creates a dedicated infrastructure on the first execution, establishing a work directory structured with various subdirectories for storing patches, logs, and backup SAR archives. Important directories include /sapmnt//patches for kernel patches, and /sapmnt//exe, which houses executable programs subject to maintenance. Users are advised not to modify the predefined directory structures to avoid mismatches across LPARs. Furthermore, the transition to APYSIDKRN simplifies error management, as all required actions use a unified interface.
