SAP Note 336765 - Why translate selection text with DDIC reference?

Component : Translation Tools -

Summary :
SAP systems require translations for ABAP program's selection parameters even when they reference a data element text available in the target language due to the fact that the underlying DDIC reference only serves as an initial text sourcing aid rather than a complete reference. The procedure involves setting a DDIC indicator for the selection parameter to initially use the dictionary text but allows modifications post-reference which necessitates adopting individual translations for each language. The limited capability of automatically accessing data element texts at runtime in varying languages further consolidates the need for this method, affirmed by the lack of enhancement due to structural limits identified during early evaluations in 1995/96.
